We didn't quite understand what Super Deluxe was, but we knew we loved the name as big-haired locals pronounced every syllable with super drama. Located a short walk from central Shibuya, visitors arrive to what feels like a hybrid of derelict Starbucks and gorilla-marketing conference. The warehouse-style club is wrapped-up in pretty concrete floors and rafter ceiling offering an edgy loft vibe to even edgier locals sporting avant-garde frocks and overly processed hair. The space is minimally decorated with long bar serving girly cocktails and al-night coffee drinks accented by the stray arrangement of fairy lights and neon scrolling. The spot morphs from one night to the next between makeshift film noir series, impromptu digital DJ jams and full-on dance club popular with Tokyo's creative brass. While the website insists the club is closed almost weekly for private events, it's exactly those events you'll want to attend or at least try to crash for the best DJ parties and wildest of late Tokyo nights.
Tips
Log-on to the club's website for event dates and times. While there's never a line, private events require a spot on the list.
